Volunteer with FIRST!

STLE Detroit recognizes the need for support of STEM and STEAM activities around the Metro Detroit area. We are committed to promoting the science of tribology and the study of friction, wear, and lubrication in all applications, and robotics is a great place to start. Nothing is worse than too much friction where you don’t want it, or not enough friction when you do want it.

Southeastern MI is the centre of automation in the United States, so it’s no surprise that many schools in our metro area sponsor FIRST robotics teams at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The FIRST program teaches design for problem solving and creative decision strategies. Students learn mechanical design, programming, and gameplay strategy while having a great time competing against other schools for the opportunity to win and go on to compete at the national level.

STLE Detroit encourages members to volunteer with the FIRST program on their own schedule. Volunteer opportunities include assisting with tournaments, mentoring student teams, and financially supporting teams.

STLE Detroit members will be present at several local events including Center Line and Southfield.
