The Detroit Section of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) is pleased to announce Daniel Orrell as the recipient of the 2026 STLE Detroit Section Scholarship.

This year brought an additional surprise. Originally planned as a $2,000 award, the Detroit Section increased the scholarship to $3,000 and surprised Daniel with the additional funding during the award presentation.

Daniel is a Chemical Engineering student at Michigan State University with industry and research experience spanning chemical manufacturing and advanced materials processing. He has completed internships with Dow Chemical and Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) and has worked with Fraunhofer USA during the academic year for the past two years.

At Fraunhofer USA, Daniel’s work has focused on the processing and polishing of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) materials. His interests include chemical processing, manufacturing, and the development of technologies for advanced materials.

Daniel recently shared his work with the STLE Detroit Section, presenting at the Section’s September Monthly Seminar.

Congratulations, Daniel, on this well-deserved recognition. We wish you continued success in your studies and future career!
